Smart hydraulics power Industry 4.0

Digitalization is revolutionizing the modern manufacturing landscape, leading companies into the era of Industry 4.0. This fundamental transformation extends far beyond mere automation, creating intelligent, interconnected production ecosystems.

What is Fluid Power and what does it do?

Especially in the hydraulic industry and fluid power sectors, this development opens up entirely new possibilities. Hydraulic systems evolve into smart components that continuously collect, analyze, and optimize operational data.

Seamless data exchange between machines, sensors, and control systems enables precise monitoring of pressures, temperatures, and flow rates in real time.

This interconnectivity lays the foundation for predictive maintenance, energy efficiency, and adaptive production processes. Thus, companies can enhance their competitiveness while simultaneously operating more sustainably.

Motivation

Digitalization in Fluid Power helps machine builders and operators succeed in a competitive global market. By moving from slow, sequential workflows to faster, software-driven processes digitalization significantly shortens development times and boosts overall productivity.

By creating industry-wide standards the collaboration between companies to maintain a competitive advantage will be simplified.

Activities

A key activity is the collaboration in industry associations like the VDMA and their role in the “Fluid 4.0” project.

In these initiatives,  leading companies are working to define a universal standard for fluid technology, like the Asset Administration Shell (AAS). It ensures seamless data exchange between components from different manufacturers, which is essential for true digitalization.
