The FEDA Online Member Event: closing an eventful year, welcoming another


2020 has changed our ways of communication drastically. The FEDA Member Event took place just before the Christmas holidays and was no exception: it was organized as a virtual, online-only event.

We hope to be able to organize ‘live’ events as soon as possible, but we are looking back at a successful, interactive and well attended event.

 

The inspiring FEDA event started with a presentation by Menno Zwetsloot of FST. This company applies remote solutions in the installation, calibration and maintenance of their thermal spray installations. In 2020, traveling abroad became difficult and sometimes even impossible – due to the global outbreak of covid-19. For this reason, they have accelerated development and implementation of technologies such as augmented reality, smart glasses and calibration robots. A good example how a time of worldwide crisis accelerates innovations.

 

The biannual World of Technology & Science and Industrial Processing exhibition (in Utrecht, the Netherlands), is traditionally a major event bringing together thousands of people working in our industries. Due to covid-19, the tradeshow organizer has decided to postpone this event to 2022. FEDA is investigating how we are able to support the need of sharing of knowledge in 2021, by organizing an increased number of online events.

 

FEDA has introduced two new tools in 2020 supporting member companies in their day-by-day business operations and strategic decision-making processes. The FEDA Business Intelligence Portal contains economic data, industry information and statistics – feeding business intelligence processes of FEDA’s member companies. The FEDA Online Knowledge Base (‘FEDA Kennisbank’) offers an extensive source of information on a broad range of topics, such as sustainable entrepreneurship, innovation and product development.

 

During the event, five member companies were rewarded a free FEDA BI QuickScan. This individual QuickScan consists of an interview, data scan and report by FEDA’s BI specialist. After completing the QuickScan, companies will have insight into existing or future opportunities and risks. An individual BI dashboard can be built to maintain control over future business operations.

Our fast-changing world requires companies to be continuously aware about creating added value and their role in the value chain. Companies will have to be keenly focused on building strong customer relationships, and translate customer needs into rapid product and solution developments. This includes terms such as servitization and real-time chain integration, but also robotics. FEDA Next, a new format combining Technology, Market and Chain, has been specifically developed to support FEDA member companies in future market developments, enabling them to maintain a high pace of innovation.

 

A conference traditionally ends with a closing drink, an opportunity where people meet existing and new business relations. FEDA had submitted a package of crisps and nuts to all participants of the online annual event. Together with the Association’s Board in the studio, and with all viewers online, we raised a glass and toasted to a successful 2021.
